Blogpost #3: Robyn
Hi lovely VSPVU’ers,
As the Board year is slowly coming to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and share a bit about my year as Treasurer of the 78th Board. Spoiler alert: it’s been a ride!
The first few months were definitely a whirlwind. From making my year budget (which made me feel very lost, overwhelmed and confused about why I became Board) to forming all the committees and meeting so many enthusiastic new members – it was a lot to take in, but also incredibly exciting.
As Treasurer, I had to figure out how to build our online bookkeeping system from scratch, dive deep into budgets, and make sense of all the financial ins and outs of the association – a true crash course in finance and responsibility! It took some getting used to, but once I found my rhythm, I really started to enjoy the structure and responsibility of my role. Managing the association’s finances, approving committee budgets, and making sure we stay financially healthy – it’s a challenge, but one I’ve grown to love.
Besides the financial side, this year has been filled with great memories: working closely with committees to help bring their ideas to life, celebrating our successes together, and of course, enjoying the fun side of Board life – like the ski trip and our legendary Active Member Weekend (which is definitely not made for sleeping…).
Now that we’re nearing the end of the year, I feel like everything is falling into place. The Board has had their ups and downs but tried to keep everything running smoothly, the committees are thriving, and we’ve pulled off some incredible events. It’s amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come.
What I’ve loved most about being Treasurer is the mix of responsibility and trust – you're involved in almost everything, and your role really matters. And while the numbers might not seem glamorous, they’ve been the foundation behind so many unforgettable moments.
So, if you ever wonder what it’s like to be a Treasurer (or just want to hear more Board stories), come find me in the VSPVU Room while you still can! I’m always happy to chat and share my experience 💚
Kisses,
Robyn Bernhard
